Aurora Borealis Dayton Ohio

Northern Lights to Dazzle Ohio Skies

Conditions Align for Aurora Viewing

Max Sunspot Number Creates Optimal Conditions

Aurora enthusiasts and novices alike are in for a treat this weekend as conditions are ripe for viewing the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights. With a maximum sunspot number anticipated to be between 137 and 173, the sky's the limit for celestial displays.

The best time to catch a glimpse of the aurora is within an hour or two of midnight, or around 10 pm according to the Ohio weather forecast. Viewers across the Miami Valley have already been capturing stunning shots of the ethereal lights.

The aurora borealis is a natural light display in the Earth's sky, caused by interactions between charged particles from the sun and the Earth's magnetic field. Heightened solar activity, such as the current maximum sunspot number, provides the ideal conditions for these breathtaking displays.
